i watch you from outside the perimeter
as you take your boots off, your computer out of the bag
boarding pass in hand
the attendant waves you forward
i lose sight of you for a moment in the crowd

then you step into a pool of sunshine
streaming from a high window
your blonde hair ignited by brightness 

suddenly you are five
same shining hair
we’re in the park
you are studiously digging a hole in the sand with a shovel
and you look up
